“You've got to follow your passion. You've got to figure out what it is you love--who you really are. And have the courage to do that. I believe that the only courage anybody ever needs is the courage to follow your own dreams.”

- Oprah Winfrey

Tonight I am the victim of writer's block. I am given the task of explaining how my future career will positively impact my community. How do you express your passion in words?  My impact derives from my passion. Do you ever notice how the people who effect you the most are the ones who truly care about what they're telling you? For example, the man in these photos is Don Roberts, a local news anchor here in the Hampton Roads. Over the summer I had the honor of job shadowing him. During this opportunity he not only shared with me the full extent of his job but served as an example. The advice and information he provided me fueled my ambition even more because he had a passion  for his career and you could hear it in his voice.

Passion is an amazing thing, simply because your passion can lead to your purpose in life. That is the difference between waking up in the morning, dreading work and waking up in the morning to walk into a place that feels like home. I found my home in front of a camera.

So I guess to answer the question of how my career will effect my community, is that it will be an example of where your passion can take you. My entire life I have been influenced by a handful of women who showed me who I could be before I knew it myself. If I could hold that same role in another girl's life well then that is true success to me.

Our world is driven by economic gain and few who create economic gain from their passions. Your passion in something is more valuable than any amount of money. (unknown)

  1. Well said, Jaida. Passion and purpose most certainly go hand in hand.
